Contribution of the microbiome to asthma risk in premature infants
We seek a postdoctoral researcher to participate in an interdisciplinary project that aims to understand how the microbiome mediates asthma risk in premature infants. The postdoctoral researcher will carry out ecological analysis of microbiome data and associated familial, stress and immune factors for a cohort of infants. We are particularly interested in applying joint species distribution models to understand the biotic and abiotic factors that drive variation in microbiome structure in early life and the association between microbiomes and asthma risk.
The postdoctoral researcher will be co-supervised by Dr. Steven Kembel (UQAM) and Dr. Marie-Claire Arrieta (University of Calgary). The ideal candidate will be based at UQAM in Montreal with the possibility to spend time in Calgary and/or working remotely. The anticipated start date will be autumn 2022 or winter 2023. Funding is guaranteed for 2 years.
- Ph.D. in Biology, Ecology, Microbiology, Bioinformatics, or related fields
- Excellent motivation and interest in participating in a diverse and dynamic research team
- Expertise in methods for microbiome bioinformatics and microbial community ecology an asset
- Expertise in joint species distribution models an asset
